Query #289 – Desire verification for Emma Hull m. Peter Ackerson; d/o John Hull and Margaret Lantz: I would like verification for Emma Hull, who married Peter Ackerson, that she is the daughter of John Hull and Margaret Lantz; and sister of Benjamin Hull and Nancy (Hull) Wood as listed in Charles Weygant’s The Hull Family in America genealogy, pub. 1913. Who were Margaret Lantz’s parents and what was the actual death date of John Hull? It’s not 1798, due to Emma and brother John H. Hull having been born in 1803 and 1805. Appreciate any and all help.

Query #288 – Photos of early Hull immigrants?: Are there any pictures of the early Hull immigrants, the ship they came on, their homes, churches, towns, lands, or places where they were? Specifically I am looking for these for Rev. Joseph Hull, or any of his ancestors, or the same images for the first or second generation of his descendants. I have seen some in the Hull Family Association Journal so I am wondering if there are any other than the ones in there, as I’ve already seen them. • 23 Mar 2012 Reply from the HFA Genealogist: Kevin, photography had not yet been invented when the earliest immigrants came to this country, so, no, there are not early photos of any from the 1600s or 1700s, unless they would be paintings. I know of no early photographs for the Rev. Joseph Hull, his children, his grandchildren, and probably his gt grandchildren. However, we do have photos of his church in Crewkerne, co. Somerset, England.

  • 17 Feb 2012 Reply from the HFA Genealogist: In our correspondence previous to your joining the HFA, I related to you what we might have on Joanna (Hull) Bursley and her father, the Rev. Joseph Hull, along with his ancestors. I also gave you a list of our previous HFA Journals, which would have info on these people. We think that this will fill in some data on these English Hulls.

Query #280 – Reply to Query #071: Frank Hull m. Carrie Ann Pickens, ca. 1865, Otsego Co., NY: I have also done research on Ancestry.com but have hit dead ends. I am trying to research Frank Hull who married Carrie Ann Pickens around 1865 in Otsego Co., NY. They lived in Westford, NY. They also had a child named Beulah Hull, born July 1890. I am seeking information on their marriage license to verify Carrie’s history. Pickens is her adopted name.

  • 04 Feb 2012 Reply from non-member Marguerite McCauley: If one of Frank Hull’s (of Westford) descendants was a daughter named Beulah (Hull) Aufmuth, then this is the same person. Carrie Laidler (Pickens, adopted name) was our great grandmother, and she was Beulah’s mother. If you have nothing on Frank Hull’s wife, then that doesn’t really help me. They were married by December, 1885 according to the Otsego Farmer. Divorced by 1892.
  • 20 Jan 2012 Reply from the HFA Genealogist: In our database, we have four Frank Hulls in Otsego Co., NY. One of these lived in Westford. At present, we are not sure this is the Frank Hull you are seeking, but things seem to fit for this to be the right one. We have quite a lot of info on this Frank Hull’s ancestors. We have no info on Frank’s wife.

  • 20 Jan 2012 Reply from the HFA Genealogist: I am showing three different references for the Piatt name in my Hull database. It’s difficult to know just what you are seeking, but this information might help you. If you are also a Hull descendant, then we have numerous records to help you—especially on the Rev. Joseph Hull, immigrant, name. These are records that we have published and they do not appear on any website. We have several HFA members who are also Piatt descendants.
We’d welcome having you as a new member. We can send out our family group sheets, three at a time, at no charge, if you are a member.

Query #277 – Seeking Parents of Harvey Hull (1805–1882); Durham, Middlesex Co., CT: I am trying to find the parents of Harvey Hull (Aug. 7, 1805–Oct. 22, 1882). Most of his life was lived in Durham, Conn., but there is no mention of his birth in William Chauncey Fowler’s History of Durham, Connecticut… (Hartford: Wiley, Waterman & Eaton, 1866).

On June 28, 1841, he married Susan Cone (Dec 17, 1815–Aug 23, 1899). Some Account of the Cone Family in America… (Topeka, Kan.: Printed by Crane & Co., 1903) under the heading for Susan Cone (4430, p. 368). Harvey’s father is given as Eliakim Hull, but I have been unable to find anyone of that name whose dates would apply.

The old cemetery in Durham contains a headstone with the following inscription:

Revolutionary War
Eliakin [sic] Hull
Capt. Throops [sic] Co.
Died Oct. 30, 1811

Harvey and Susan’s children were Timothy Edgar Hull (1843–1904) and James Polk Hull (1847–1921).

I am descended from Timothy. James had no children.

  • 19 Jan 2012 Reply from the HFA Genealogist: We have the same info on Harvey Hull that you have. Regarding Eliakim Hull, Revolutionary War soldier, I have seven entries for an Eliakim Hull in my book Hulls in the American Revolution, pub. 1997, which I can send you by e-mail. This might help you to decide if Eliakim Hull is Harvey Hull’s father.
In my HFA database, I have 60 family group sheets for Hulls in Durham, Middlesex Co., CT. I can also send these to you by e-email.
I do not have a record that you have submitted a lineage to the HFA. We keep these lineages on file in order to co-ordinate all of our records. If you would still like to send a lineage, please go to the form here, which will send the lineage directly to me.
On the 1850 Durham, Middlesex Co., CT census, I am seeing several Hulls living fairly close to your Harvey Hull. Have you ever investigated any of these families in an attempt to tie them to Harvey?
One last suggestion: Submitting a DNA sample would help to narrow down which line you might descend from. I have 37 family group sheets from the George Hull, immigrant, line in my database. I have four family group sheets in Middlesex Co., CT, who descend from the Richard Hull, immigrant, line. I have five family group sheets in Middlesex Co., CT, who descend from the Rev. Joseph Hull, immigrant, line. In my database, I have 332 family group sheets for Hulls in Middlesex Co., CT.
I will also consult with “Saratoga” Bob Hull to see if he can place your Harvey Hull in any of the families in his database, as he specializes in New England Hulls.
