About the Book
One of the earliest publications by an HFA member was Hulls in 1850, published by Robert Hull Taylor in 1983. Based on the U.S. Census of 1850, this book contains the names of many of the persons with the Hull surname enumerated throughout the United States. The 1850 Census was significant for its inclusion, by name, of every family member. Prior to that census only the head of the family was listed by name.
(Note that this book includes only people of the Hull surname and not people with variant spellings of the name. By the time of the 1850 census, however, a significant number of people with the Holl and Hohl surnames had changed the spelling of their name to Hull.)
The two main features of this book are its directory in census record order and its alphabetical index.
